TURN UP THE MUSIC

* ORCHESTRA - recruiting now. Rehearsals Thursdays 4pm at WHS. Grade 3 plus. Violin, viola, cello and bass players wanted. Email us to enrol. $50 per term. 

* CONCERT BAND - recruiting now. Rehearsals 5pm Mondays at WHS. Grade 1 plus trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, trombone players wanted. Email us to enrol. $50 per term.

* CHOIR - recruiting now. Rehearsals on Tuesdays at WHS. Email now to enrol. $50 per term. 

* NEW - Small Hands Music for pre-schoolers. Drop-in sessions to learn the basics of music and have fun, with Natasha Wilson. Fridays 10:30 at the St Johns rooms starting August 9th, and Fridays 1:30pm at the Anglican Cottage on Berkshire St in Arrowtown starting August 9th. $5 donation each session. 

* NEW - Start Here Recorder lessons . The ideal way for children aged 5 - 7 years to learn the essential skills of music. Hand-eye co-ordination, fine motor skills, reading music, playing in time and listening carefully are all vital skills no matter what instrument you want to learn later on. $50 per term, Wednesdays at WHS, 3:45pm. Email to enrol. We can provide instruments. 

* NEW - Small Strings . Introduction to the violin over 5 weeks. Instruments provided! Friday 3:40 - 4:15  (ages 4-6 years), 4:15 - 4:50 (ages 7-9 years)

This 5 week course will include:

- Learning about parts of the violin

- How to hold a violin/bow and how to stand

- Playing on all the violin strings

- Playing basic rhythms

- Using fingers

Parents - you also have the opportunity to learn the violin alongside your child.

$50 per course including the hire of the instrument for the duration of the course. Start date tbc (the violins haven't arrived yet!)

* Performance week will be in term 4 - w/b Nov 18th. Starting at 4pm each day all students are invited to perform! We all come together and perform for each other. Not as a competition, just for the experience and for fun, and to show parents what we can do. All Monday students will come together into one room at WHS at 4pm and perform for each other, all Tuesday students will do the same on a Tuesday, etc across the week. Start Here recorders, Choir, Orchestra and Concert Band will also perform for the collected group on their usual day. We'd like each student to introduce their own piece / performance, which will last up to 2 minutes each.
